Gentel Biosciences Adds Two Internationally Renowned Scientists To Its Scientific Advisory Board

Gentel Biosciences Closes Two Million Dollar Financing Round

Madison, WI - GenTel BioSciences, Inc., a privately-held protein chip-based life sciences company, recently completed a critical round of financing activity raising over two million dollars, announced its President and Chief Executive Officer Alex Vodenlich.

Two prominent Wisconsin-based investor organizations contributed the majority of the financing; NEW Capital Fund, LP, based in Appleton, Wisconsin and Wisconsin Investment Partners, LLC, a life science-oriented angel investment network based in Madison.

NEW Capital Fund targets companies in Wisconsin with the potential for rapid growth and that are certifiable under Wisconsin’s Act 255 investment tax credit program, according to the Fund’s general partner Charlie Goff. NEW Capital Fund chose to invest in GenTel BioSciences as the company has already proven itself as a sound and promising venture.

Gentel to Commercialize Novel Array Technology Licensed from Van Andel

Madison, WI, USA and Grand Rapids, Michigan – GenTel BioSciences, Inc., and The Van Andel Research Institute (VARI) today announced an exclusive agreement granting GenTel the right to commercialize a novel microarray technology for measuring variations in the glycosylation of proteins.

Glycosylation is the chemical addition of a sugar molecule to a protein after its synthesis. Changes in the glycosylation of proteins are associated with many types of cancer.

The technology uses antibody microarrays to profile changes in glycosylation of proteins captured on the surface of a chip. “This technology could lead to the discovery of diseasespecific alterations in protein glycosylation as well as new diagnostic biomarkers,” says Dr. Brian H. Haab of VARI and inventor of the technology.

Gentel Awarded $1.2M Federal Grant to Develop Novel Allegy Test

MADISON, WIS. – GenTel BioSciences, Inc. announced today that it has received a two-year, $1.2 million Phase II SBIR grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to develop a test kit that will be used to aid in the research, rapid diagnosis, and subsequent treatment of respiratory allergies.

“GenTel’s new allergy test will rapidly identify a specific allergic response in a patient using only a few drops of blood,” said Bryce Nelson, Ph.D., GenTel’s Vice President of Research & Development. “Our protein chip uses a new type of test called a multiplex assay to rapidly test a patient’s blood for reactivity to many potential allergens at once.”

Gentel Partners with Abnova

MADISON, WIS. – GenTel BioSurfaces, Inc., a privately held life sciences company, announced today that it has partnered with Taiwan-based Abnova Corporation to combine Abnova’s high throughput protein and antibody content manufacturing capabilities with GenTel’s new custom multiplex immunoassay development service. GenTel’s flagship technology, the PATH™ Protein Microarray System will be used to develop new custom multiplex immunoassays. PATH technology is based on ultra-thin nitrocellulose surface chemistry developed specifically for antibody arrays. The company currently markets and sells PATH products and accessories and will now offer robust multiplex immunoassays using protein content from Abnova.
